We have already established truffières (orchards) of our own
in the recognised growing areas of France - in the hopes that we can
show the French how to do it! We are now looking in the UK where truffle
has grown (uncropped) for hundreds of years. Gérard Chevalier,
a Mycologist and the world's leading expert on truffle says 'the conditions
in parts of England are identical to those we have in France - there
will be truffle growing everywhere'.
So Truffle UK Ltd is keen to encourage farmers & landowners
with sites in suitable locations where type of soil, site orientation,
rainfall (& the potential for irrigation) are all-important issues go to
'Instructions for Establishing your Truffle Orchard'.
We would supply the infected oak and hazel trees at discounted
rates for orchards of 20 trees plus and offer advice on how to maintain
the truffière thereafter to an agreed protocol.

On request, Truffle UK Ltd would:
a. Carry out an annual investigation in spring to monitor the growth
of the trees and truffle infection
b. After four to five growing seasons, would organise a search for
truffle, using especially trained dogs
c. Once the truffière is in production, would be responsible
for harvesting the truffles on a weekly basis during the season, marketing
them on a co-operative basis and taking an agreed percentage of the
harvest in return.
Of particular interest to us are sites in the south of England, on
chalk & limestone strata with high stone content and on east and
south facing slopes. Landscaping projects on industrial or residential
developments and around quarries, could benefit from the planting of
truffle-infected trees - producing some income from otherwise sterilised
land.
